Transforming mental health through education

At Inclusion School, we recognise that the mental health crisis affecting young people demands a different approach to education. With 83% of UK secondary schools reporting insufficient resources to meet students’ mental health needs*, we’re bridging a chasm in the system. Our independent specialist school serves children aged 11-16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), creating a safe space where education and well-being work hand in hand.
According to recent data, 1 in 6 children aged 6-16 have a probable mental health disorder**, and many of these young people struggle to engage with traditional education. That’s where we come in.

“Our approach is child centered, non-judgmental, and nurturing. We promote a ‘Way of Being’ that builds a foundation of trust that has the potential to enhance and improve the lives of all of our learners & students.”

Transforming Educational Support for Young People

The Inclusion Way™  is our framework for creating nurturing learning environments that put individual wellbeing at the heart of education. We bridge the gap between mainstream and specialist education, providing personalised support for young people with complex needs traditional settings just aren’t built for. Young people with mental health conditions are 3 times more likely to be excluded from school than their peers*; we’re breaking that cycle.

Why It Matters

For young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), mental health challenges, and neurodivergence, traditional education often falls massively short. The Inclusion Way™  is a proven alternative based on 15+ years of experience that recognises:

  • Mental health and additional learning support aren’t optional extras
  • Education should be about thriving, not just surviving
  • Every young person deserves to feel heard, seen, and valued

What We offer

Three Core Strands

1

Supporting the Individual

We look beyond behaviours to understand what young learners are communicating, making sure every interaction is therapeutic and builds trust. Putting choice at the heart of their education.

2

Safe Learning Spaces

We believe learning happens best where belonging comes first. Our teaching rooms are calm, supportive spaces where learners feel safe to explore, because when the environment adapts to the student, not the other way around, potential unlocks.

3

Resetting the System

The current education system isn’t working for too many young people; we need a reset. But we’re not just pointing out problems, we’re proving the solutions work, because real inclusion benefits all learners, not just those with additional needs

Evidence-Based Impact

Our approach recognises that for children who have experienced trauma or have additional needs:

The Inclusion Way™  supports the UNESCO global Happy Schools framework and is continuously refined through practice and research.
